Ok, so this one's a bit freaky. It's inspired by a Maori legend of Maui who fishes up the North New Zealand Island from the sea. I decided to use both islands though.

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. I must admit, I myself had not been aware of the geographic symbolism, until reading your statement to the matter. The symbol, without political addition to it, I think it is strong for the background you explain of the scene.
I'm honestly glad that I lucked out to have seen this image listed in the "recent deviations" thing on the main page for this site. The mystery that I think seems of this image, together with the pragmatic content, and the matters of the background (story) -- this is really a great work.
